I often get clients asking me how often they should tune their pianos.
This is the most common question I have heard since I started tuning pianos in NW Ohio and SE Michigan back in 2006. The climates here can be harsh and change drastically from one day to the next. It is not uncommon to completely skip spring and go directly into summer like conditions. Humidity goes up and down in these parts of the country and the wood of the piano expands and contracts accordingly. That being said...the piano should be tuned at least one time per year to maintain minimal deviation from the pitch of A440. This of course is for the average casual user. More devoted pianists who play daily or beyond 30 minutes a day may want to consider tuning their pianos every 6 months.
